A perfect fit starts with one simple step. A quick, accurate measurement makes the difference between a hat that fits just right and one that doesn’t.

Measure just above the ears, across the forehead, and around the nape.
Measure just above the ears, across the forehead, and around the nape.

How to Measure

• Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the widest part of your head

• Position it just above your ears and across your forehead, right before the hairline

• Keep the tape level all the way around

• It should be snug, not tight

What to Do Next

Write down the number you get. This is your head circumference, and it’s the key measurement you’ll use to choose your size or calculate your cast-on.

No Measuring Tape?

No problem. Use a piece of string, wrap it the same way, then lay it flat against a ruler to get your measurement.

Quick Tip

Measure twice to be sure. Even a small difference can affect fit, especially with negative ease in knit hats.
